Finding Products to Sell

Finding the right product to sell is probably the greatest hurdle people face with Internet Marketing. Setting up a retail business using wholesale products is not that difficult, however, when you have the right information. Just remember your shop will be on one of the busiest streets in the world but your have to get people interested in what you are selling. That means having some knowledge of what end of town to set up in and what triggers the interest of passers by.

As your street is the Internet and your source of promotion is both online and offline advertising then its presentation and interest that will drive people into your store. One of the greatest generators of interest are goods offered FREE or as SPECIALS. That means buying right.

You should try to get your products at the lowest price in order to profit from selling items online or anywhere else. The difficulty most face is finding true wholesale product suppliers. If you don't know a product, its potential market and how much you should sell it for you are starting from behind the eight ball.

Before venturing forth with any product you should know hat is the mark-up versus profit margin? What about shipping and other costs? Are you solely an agent acting for the wholesaler and if so what is his obligation to ensure that the goods arrive safely and on time? Remember if you deal with someone over the Internet you do not have face to face contact and cannot judge their credibility except from their reputation. That means searching their history.

Before you venture into this game know this:-
It is your reputation that is out there up front before the purchaser.
It is to you that any complaints will be targeted.
It is your money, time and effort that has built and promoted your site.
It is your business to protect your purchaser and ensure that refunds or replacements will be forthcoming if the goods are unsatisfactory, arrive damaged, or don't arrive at all.

With these things sorted out what about the selection of the goods themselves. If you get the right product with a ready market then you will probably laugh all the way to the bank once the business is established.

The problem is finding true wholesale product suppliers online. How do you know that they are not in-betweens taking you for a ride.

Sometimes it works to contact a company you are interested in and ask for a list of distributors, but be prepared to give them a company name when you do this. If you live in a country where GST or other tax loadings operate then you will also have to supply your number. They don't want to sell wholesale to individuals as a safeguard for both their product(s) and the retail benefits to genuine companies. Often a manufacturer's website will have the name of distributors.

The Company should tell you that before you ask a wholesaler for the right to sell his products. You also need to already have set up a good professional e-commerce website. Where then do you start?

Why not start in your own backyard. Find a local manufacturer or supplier and offer to market his/her products on line for a percentage. There are many advantages to this especially the fact that you can meet face to face, you can inspect the Company and its products, and you can work out a satisfactory arrangement that will work for both of you. After all if you are successful he will be also. If he/she is marketing their own goods then they will save on advertising and other expenses by you doing thie work for them. That should come into consideration when setting out your compensation plan. remember, however, that the cost of shipping, insurance, and replacement falls on the wholesaler.

Many small businesses would jump at this and you should immediately begin building a reputation as a genuine marketer to others who will engage your services. The bottom line is building credibility faster and easier than otherwise. The majority of small businesses in your district probably do not have a web presence because of the technical difficulties and expense of building and marketing such a site.

Some people have made it selling things like cement products, fruit juice, ferns, and such. Others use affiliate programs, books, and how to sites

If you are searching online for a wholesaler, try narrowing down to a specific product to search for. This is more effective than looking for general wholesalers because you will not be overwhelmed with too much information.

Contact another seller, one who will not be in competition with you. Ask him how he found his sources.

EBay lists wholesalers. Some users have success with this way, others say the prices are still too high. If you look on eBay, look for wholesalers with high approval ratings.

It's not always necessary to get the absolute lowest prices. You just need prices low enough so you can make a substantial profit. You can find some very low prices by searching for clearance products in online stores or your own hometown.

Finding true wholesaler product suppliers is difficult but not impossible. Your best chance is by registering as a business and contacting the manufacturers you are interested in. Make sure there is room for enough markup to make your business worthwhile. If you find a supplier you are happy with, stick with them and make some money.
